Plenty of people who work in Dubai end up living in Sharjah. The rents are gentler, the apartments are bigger, and once you are used to the morning drive along Al Ittihad Road it becomes part of the routine. The move itself, though, is the part nobody looks forward to — and it is the part most people under-plan.
If you are about to make that move, or shifting from one part of Sharjah to another, here is what tends to matter most.
Get the building side sorted first
Sharjah apartment buildings are strict about moving days. Most towers in Al Nahda, Al Taawun, Al Majaz and Al Khan will not let a truck near the service entrance without prior notice, a copy of your tenancy contract and Emirates ID, and in some cases a refundable deposit against lift or lobby damage. The bigger towers also ask you to book the service lift for a specific slot.
None of this is difficult, but it takes a few days. Ask both buildings what they need as soon as you know your date. A crew that arrives to find the watchman has not been told will spend the first hour waiting, and some companies bill for that time.
The same applies to utilities. Your SEWA account needs a final reading and clearance before you hand the keys back — landlords usually will not release the deposit without it. Request it a few days ahead rather than on the morning you leave.
Decide what you are paying for
There is a real difference between hiring a truck with two men and hiring a full moving service, and the price gap reflects it.
The first is fine for a studio or a lightly furnished one-bedroom: you pack, they lift and drive. The second makes far more sense for a family home — the crew disassembles beds and wardrobes, wraps everything in blankets and stretch film, and reassembles it all at the other end, usually within the day.
When you start comparing Movers in Sharjah, the most useful thing you can do is insist on a written quote based on either a site visit or a room-by-room inventory. A price given over the phone for a “two-bedroom” without knowing whether that includes a six-seater dining table, a piano and a balcony full of plant pots is a guess, and guesses have a habit of growing on moving day.
What a proper quote should include
Before you agree to anything, check that the quote states:
- how many crew and what size of truck
- whether packing materials are included or billed separately
- whether disassembly and reassembly of furniture is included
- what happens if either building has no lift, or the lift cannot take a wardrobe
- what cover exists if something is damaged
That last one matters. “We are very careful” is not a damage policy. A licensed company will have a written clause or insurance, and will show its trade licence without fuss. Hesitation on either point tells you something.
Timing around the Sharjah–Dubai commute
If your move crosses the Sharjah–Dubai boundary, traffic is not a detail — it can decide whether the job takes three hours or six. The morning rush towards Dubai runs from roughly 6:30 to 9:30 am, and the evening rush back into Sharjah from about 4 pm until 8. A truck stuck in either of those is dead time you may be paying for.
The sweet spot is a weekday start around 9:30 or 10 am, after the commuters are through, with the truck unloaded and gone before the evening build-up. In summer, push it earlier: crews work faster before the heat sets in, and your furniture is not sitting in a hot truck for hours.
It also helps to keep your own car free on moving day rather than using it as a second removal vehicle. Save it for the things you do not want in the truck — documents, laptops, medication, the first-night kitchen box — and for the inevitable trip to buy the one thing you forgot.
The last week of the month is the busy one
Most tenancy contracts in the UAE end at month-end, so the final week of every month is peak season for Movers and Packers in Sharjah. Good crews are booked out, prices firm up, and there is less room for last-minute changes. If your lease gives you any flexibility, a mid-month move is calmer and often cheaper.
A Sharjah move goes smoothly when it is treated as a small project with a start date, not as a single frantic Saturday. Sort the building and utility paperwork, choose the crew on the strength of a written quote rather than a phone price, and pick your time slot with the traffic in mind — the rest is just boxes.
